For those of us that love to travel; cost is always a factor in how frequently we can take a vacation. The problem is that the air fare getting there is often as much as a weeks at a three star hotel. The answer is frequent flier miles.
If your lucky enough to work for a company that flys you around the country and lets you keep your frequent flyer miles, that's great But it's not available to all of us. Typically, it takes 5 or more cross country round trip flights to get you enough miles for comparable flight using the miles you had earned.
So look into a rewards credit card. There are many of them out there. Most major banks have them, as do most airlines. One word of warning! If you don't have the discipline to manage your finances and pay off your cards every month .. don't do it.
So where do you start? Start by doing a little research. Which airport do you typically fly out of? What are your likely destinations over the next several years? Then see which airlines fly between these airports. The go online to these airlines and look at their rules. How many miles does it take? Can you use their miles to book a flight on one of their partner airlines?
Once you have identified the airlines, go ahead any apply for a frequent flyer number. It does not cost you anything.
