First Real Vacation

The first real vacation that my wife and I took goes back 20 plus years. I had signed up for a program where you paid so much per month and at the end of the year you were entitled to a weeks stay at one of several locations.  Well the the year went by and it appeared that the company was not going to be around much longer. So we quickly made our reservation for Cancun, Mexico. Our flight  had an overnight stop at DFW. ( Dallas- Fort Worth). This turned out to be great. At the time we lived in Stockton, California. Remember when camping was all you could afford?

I can remember when camping was all we could afford in the way of vacations. Those were the good old days. Worked all week leading up to a three day weekend and we are ready to go.  Get home for a bit to eat and then it's time to load the car.   We had an Olds Ciera back then. Two adults, two teenagers, a German Sheppard and all that camping gear. The inside of the car was full. The trunk filled up pretty fast.  The rest goes up on the roof rack.  Final get on the road about  7:30 or 8:00 looking like something out of the 'Grapes of Wrath'. Then comes the two and a half hour drive to our favorite camping spot. Then comes setting up camp in the dark. No fire the first night. Too dark to gather wood and two tired to stay up anyway. Yes Sir .. those were the good old days!
