A Few reflections of the good old days.

I need to mention a few reflections of those good old days before moving on. There was the time that the tent stakes did not make the trip. Sleeping bags were laid directly on a flattened tent. Or the time the Blazer got stuck in a mud hole at 11:00 at night. I remember my wife quietly telling the kids; ' don't say a thing'. It seems that camping became more popular through the years. And as it become more popular the camping experience changed.  At first you could find a spot with nobody else within miles. Finally it reached a point when you were sharing a tent stake with your neighbor. And even the camping era can be sub divided. There was the sleep on the ground phase. ( Very short ). Then came the sleeping bag phase. Then the Air Mattress Phase. And the final phase is the talk about it phase. That's when you talk about camping a lot; but spend much more actual time at a Bed and Breakfast. We still camp. But now we have all the comforts of home in our travel tr...

Remember when camping was all you could afford?

I can remember when camping was all we could afford in the way of vacations. Those were the good old days. Worked all week leading up to a three day weekend and we are ready to go.  Get home for a bit to eat and then it's time to load the car.   We had an Olds Ciera back then. Two adults, two teenagers, a German Sheppard and all that camping gear. The inside of the car was full. The trunk filled up pretty fast.  The rest goes up on the roof rack.  Final get on the road about  7:30 or 8:00 looking like something out of the 'Grapes of Wrath'. Then comes the two and a half hour drive to our favorite camping spot. Then comes setting up camp in the dark. No fire the first night. Too dark to gather wood and two tired to stay up anyway. Yes Sir .. those were the good old days!
